a poet's mind

an unpaved street lined with a single sidewalk
     with infinite cracks and patterns

roses and vines crawling up the fence
     intertwining into the silver bars
          unsaid, unrecognized trespassers.

the mind of a poet is disheveled
like the roses and vines and the unpaved streets.

the mind of a poet is messy.
it is anything but
shelved folders of organized thoughts and ideas and drafts and

if anything the mind of a poet is a conundrum, or a puzzle,
pleading the writer to be solved--
for all the words to be written into long, flowing, paragraphs

           that we call poems.
